My thesis project in theatre is going to be a film. I have until March to create my proposal, my plan of action, my budget, and get a damn good screenplay. I have all of next year to film it.

I was really intimidated by this at first. I have no coursework, no professional experience, only a few amateur movies under my belt. But then I remembered Management 101. If I could, with no prior business class experience, direct a feature-length film that made history as one of the best 5 oral report productions in an archive of over 400, I'm probably a damn quick study when I put my mind to it. And I'm going to put my mind to this. I am going to read a shitload of books, I'm going to watch a bunch of independent films, and I'm going to start practicing with some side projects. When next year rolls around, I'm going to invest my heart and soul into that piece, and I'm going to use that as my central bragging point for whatever jobs I want to look into after graduation. I know I can do this.

In unrelated news, "No Exit" next semester is going to be incredible. I can't wait.

    Family news
Mom's company is restructuring, so her job position officially ends (along with most others) in May. This is actually really great, because she's been looking for an out and now she has it... with severance pay and a bonus and all that. Which means that she'll be around more this summer.

So my cousin IS having the baby, a daughter. And my other cousin, her older sister (about 21) is getting married. Wowww.

This, coupled with Charlie and Shaun adopting that baby boy from Vietnam... exciting times for my family.

    This is how it works
    You're young until you're not
    You love until you don't
    You try until you can't
    You laugh until you cry
    You cry until you laugh
    And everyone must breathe
    Until their dying breath

No, this is how it works
    You peer inside yourself
You take the things you like
And try to love the things you took
And then you take that love you made
    And stick it into some
    Someone else's heart
    Pumping someone else's blood
    And walking arm in arm
You hope it don't get harmed
    But even if it does
You'll just do it all again

So I've got some virus... that isn't mono. But I missed all my classes today.
Too sick to go on the DC trip.
Too sick to go to chipfest tonight.
    My piercing got infected.
Didn't get into the student ambassador program.

I know I'm going to get turned down for the JF thing on Friday... everything I've applied to or auditioned for has been a letdown, and this shouldn't be any different, especially when its about 4 people competing for every spot. I really wanted to be hopeful, because I wanted this position more than any show or program I tried to join this year. And if I'm out of luck with this, and I don't place for alumni housing 'cause I've been so unactive in res college activities, then I get stuck in the general lottery and could end up living anywhere next year. I could be in downtown housing, a crappy dorm, or a mod, with total strangers.

I'm sure that in 10 years I'll say that I had it too easy in high school, and back in those days too many things went my way, and my first year at college was ultimately a humbling experience. But for right now, it just sucks.

    I'm back at school.

I saved money on my books for next semester by buying them through people I know/Amazon rather than our bookstore.

    But spent money on Gh3.

Sarah H. dyed my hair, and I love it. All the funky shade of red from before is out, and now my hair is a solid (and much darker) shade of brown.

I have about 14 hours of class a week. Baby math and baby bio should be just fine.

I have a couple visitors coming this semester. :D

But I miss you all already.

    This is truly beautiful...
    "Where are you going?"
    "I'm not going, I'm coming."
"That I know. Everybody that is going to somewhere is coming from somewhere. What I asked you was where you are going to."
    "I don't know. And I don't wanna know."
    "But I wanna know."
    "Could you excuse me?"
"You haven't told me what I wanna know yet."
"Are you some kind of crazy guy that thinks he has to know every single thing that is none of his business?'
"I'm just a poor guy that needs someone who will tie his bow."
"If I help you with your bow, do you promise you'll let me pass?"
"If it's a pretty bow. Today is a very important day for me."
    "Lucky you."
"Are you sure today isn't a very important day for you too?"
    "I don't know. And I don't wanna know."
"This could be called 'lack of preparation to deal with a specific situation', but I prefer to call it 'waste of time'. After all, if you'll have to deal with a specific situation, it's best to face the fact. Otherwise, someday you'll think, 'How silly I was, I've lost years of my life trying to escape something that was inescapable, instead of really trying to live the thing, seen that life is nothing but living each thing that happens'."
"Okay, you got it right. I was trying to escape. Did you like your bow?"
"I prefer the firm ones. The ones that are harder to do and undo, but when are done and afterwards undone, can be proud of themselves and say with belief, 'I was a great bow'."
"Bows don't say anything. Especially with belief."
"But I say things. Lots of different things. I can numerate all the reasons a girl has not to cry... in alphabetic order. Or recite a love poem. Or tell a joke. Do you know the one about the parrot that hates parrots' jokes? I can spend HOURS talking about shenanigans in general, and explain the importance of each one of them, but only if you demanded that."
"Okay. You won. I demand an explanation for these shenanigans. What do you have to say?"
"That is silliness to cry for ties that seem to be undone, but are still firms. Some ties are stubborn. Sometimes, you think 'Poof, there they go'. But they are still there. Just like some kinds of love."
"Okay, crazy bow tie man. I was coming from my father's funeral. I didn't want to stay there. So I ran away. I don't know where I was going. I don't care about anywhere, now that he isn't anywhere anymore."
"It's beautiful. The bow, I mean."

What did you do in 2007 that you'd never done before? won a final varsity debate round, last fencing bout, got accepted to colleges, graduated high school, went to college, first hangover, went to the west coast for the first time (and left the country for the first time), seen a gay wedding, stayed up for about 40 hours, Lake Compounce sky coaster, eaten a caesar salad, stage managed a show, gone to a frat party, came down with bronchitis, and a few other things i have too much sense to post online (but a few of my close friends know *wink*)

    2. Did you make any New Year’s resolutions for 2007? Probably? Whatever they were, I bet I didn't follow them. I'm never disciplined enough to.

    3. Did anyone close to you give birth? nope

    4. Did anyone close to you die? no, thank God.

    5. What countries did you visit? Mexico, but I only saw Tijuana (which is obviously a tourist trap). It'd be great to visit elsewhere to get a more authentic cultural experience.

    7. What date from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

June 20- done with Fairfield Warde, forevs

    8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? AP Lit exam, college acceptances, final debate round w/ melissa, graduating warde, first paper in Bucknell foundations seminar, and just adjusting to the day-to-day routine has been challenging in itself. I miss my family and all of you a LOT.

    9. What was your biggest failure? i can't think of one particular thing that seems paramount

    10. Did you suffer illness or injury? wOOt misdiagnosis of bronchitis w/ pneumonia!

    11. What was the best thing you bought? Chi straightening iron. Hands down.

    12. Who did you date this year? No one. Boooooy I'm pathetic.

    13. What did you realize this year? most assholes DO have hearts, they just don't make it obvious

    14. Where did most of your money go? freaking hall dinners w/ delivery food.

    15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? campus events

    16. What song will always remind you of 2007? "FlyPaper"- K-OS or "My Rights Versus Yours"- The New Pornographers, OR "The New Kid"- The Old 97's

    23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year? nope

    24. What was the best book you read? Teenage Wasteland, Plato's Republic, Something Blue, Baby Proof, HP AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS!

    25. What was your greatest musical discovery? RH Chili Peppers I guess

    26. What did you want and get? good grades and crazy weekends

    27. What did you want and not get? to form friendships just as solid and valuable as the ones I have back home

    28. What was your favorite film of this year? I think this was the first year I saw "Fight Club", so it'd be that. But the hall showing of "Superbad" was awesome as well.

    29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? 18. went into town with Shanika (it was her 18th as well) and bought stuff we couldn't at 17. then had a little shindig with her hall. things lasted well into the AM.

    30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? lots o' drugs.

    33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? Prolly Jason Dohring or Patrick Dempsey, though now Eddie Cibrian has claimed my heart.

    36. Who was the best new person you met? Drew or Shanika are awesome, I'm so glad I met them. I kinda love my hall in spite of some of the drama going on (and the fact that none of the boys understand the concept of 'Quiet Hour'). Out of my teachers, Pete Groff has been freaking incredible. He's the best teacher I've ever had.

    37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2007: Don't give fate the reins to your life. 'Fate' is just a word for people who are too scared or lazy to take their futures into their own hands. Make your destiny, yourself.

    38. What classes did you take this year? Myth, Reason, Faith. Transitions to College (required). World Philosophy. General Psychology. American Culture in Society.

    39. A quote that sums up your year:

So it's pretty much like me to stay up until 3AM cramming for an exam.

But then when I TRIED to sleep, for over 2 hours, I was anxious and caffeinated and nervous, so I couldn't relax.

So now I've given up and am hitting the books. Planning on taking the test (at 8AM) on NO sleep.

    Stupid Red Bull.
    Stupid procrastination.
    Stupid Sarah.

    Stupid stupid stupid.

"It's one of those things you never know for certain because there's no way to enter all the relationship data into a computer and have it spit out a definitive answer. You can't quantify love, and if you try, you can wind up focusing on misleading factors. Stuff that really has more to do with personality- the fact that some people are simply more expressive or emotional or needy in a relationship. But beyond such smokescreens, the answer is there. Love is seldom- almost never- an even proposition. Someone always loves more."

    "After all this time?" "Always."
Can a person burrow their way into another one's heart, and remain there permanently? Will a love that touches the deepest realms stave off any grief or anger that might threaten to expunge it? Do true love stories really have no endings?
